Northern Cape community mining project helps curb illegal operations
November 9, 2021Lower Orange River Diamonds is proud to celebrate the success of our ongoing partnership with Namaqualand Campus, a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college based in Okiep, Northern Cape. This collaboration has been pivotal in empowering local youth by providing hands-on workplace exposure as part of their journey toward achieving trade certificates in artisan skills critical to the mining industry.

(ultra focus)
Through this partnership, LOR has hosted a number of trainees, offering them invaluable real-world experience in a dynamic mining environment. The program bridges the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, equipping students with technical expertise, soft skills like communication and teamwork, and a deep understanding of industry standards and safety protocols. This experience significantly enhances their employability and prepares them to excel in trade tests, paving the way for careers as skilled artisans.

(precision is key!)
A key highlight of this initiative is our commitment to supporting Women in Mining. We are particularly proud to have welcomed several female interns who have thrived in this program, gaining confidence and technical proficiency in a traditionally male-dominated field. Their success underscores our dedication to fostering diversity and empowering women to take on vital roles in the mining sector.
By facilitating skills development, LOR is not only investing in the future of these young individuals but also contributing to the economic upliftment of under-resourced rural communities in the Northern Cape. The partnership aligns with national priorities to address skills shortages and promote youth employment, creating a pipeline of talent that strengthens both our industry and the region.
We look forward to continuing this mutually beneficial collaboration with institutions such as Namaqualand Campus, fostering the next generation of skilled professionals and driving economic empowerment in our community.
